Types of Forensic Evaluations Offered

Psychosexual Evaluation

A psychosexual evaluation provides a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s sexual history, attitudes, and behavioral patterns, interpreted within a forensic context. These evaluations are commonly requested in cases involving sexual offense charges, sentencing, civil commitment proceedings, or living-with-child determinations. Dr. Hogan utilizes empirically validated instruments and structured risk assessment tools to produce findings that are defensible and grounded in current research.

Violence Risk Assessment

A violence risk assessment evaluates the nature and degree of risk an individual may pose to others, drawing on validated actuarial measures and structured professional judgment. These evaluations are relevant across a range of legal contexts including sentencing, bail determinations, parole, civil commitment, and family court proceedings. Findings are presented in clear, actionable terms accessible to legal professionals and triers of fact.

Sentence Mitigation

A mitigation evaluation examines the psychological, developmental, and contextual factors relevant to sentencing. Dr. Hogan’s reports address trauma history, mental health, cognitive functioning, and systemic factors that bear on culpability and future risk — providing defense counsel with a substantive psychological narrative to present at sentencing.

Immigration Evaluation (Hardship, Extreme Cruelty, U-Visa)

Psychological evaluations in immigration matters document the mental health impact of deportation, separation, or abuse for use in visa applications and removal proceedings. Dr. Hogan prepares evaluations for extreme hardship waivers, VAWA and extreme cruelty claims, and U-Visa certification support. These reports are written to meet the evidentiary standards expected by USCIS and immigration courts.

Living-With-Child Assessment

A living-with-child assessment evaluates whether it is appropriate for an individual with a sex offense history  to have unsupervised contact with and/or reside in a home with a minor. These evaluations are commonly required by parole, probation, or the courts, and address risk factors, protective factors, and safeguarding recommendations in a structured format.

Parenting Capacity Evaluation

A parenting capacity evaluation assesses an individual’s ability to meet the developmental, emotional, and safety needs of a child. These evaluations are used in family court, child welfare proceedings, and custody disputes where a parent’s psychological functioning is at issue.

Victim Impact Evaluation

A victim impact evaluation documents the psychological harm experienced by a victim of crime for use in sentencing, restitution proceedings, or civil litigation. Dr. Hogan conducts these evaluations with clinical rigor and sensitivity, producing reports that clearly communicate the scope and severity of psychological injury.
